Point Cloud Scanning at Hamilton By Design

Laser Scanning for Engineering

3D laser scanning and software technologies has been the latest step in 3D modelling these tools allow our skilled team will capture environments and objects efficiently and accurately.
In general terms, we capture a virtual reality in 3D then we transform that data set into a 3-D solid modelling . The scope of applications for 3D laser scanning and CAD modelling is many and growing and is only limited by the users skill set.
Efficiency scanning an envelope is the challenge to offer cost effective outcomes, the data set needs to be limited to the design scope. We have had external scanners scan everything the whole plant when we as engineers only desire the envelope to which our scope relates. Having large point clouds only slows down the modelling time and can add additional cost to a project in terms of development time.

In many case it can be more cost effective to create 3-D cad models the traditional way rather than use large data sets.
Objects can be scanned with millions of 3D points in minutes and stored as a 3D point cloud with millimeter measurement accuracy. Point cloud data can be converted to mesh files or directly imported and modelled in most CAD tools.
To efficiently produce 3D cad models it is best to get the designer to both scan the point cloud and develop the 3-D cad models.
Many scanners offer a range of scanning services to :

Domestic

Industrial

Marine

Mechanical Engineering

Structural Engineering

Civil  Engineering

Heritage objects

Crime Scenes

Quality Control

Then they go on to offer sites for measurement and reverse engineering one tool fits all the reality is that this is not practical.

The team at Hamilton By Design offer 3-D Laser Scanning and point clouding modelling in a cost effective fashion. We are specialists in scanning mining and mining process for structural and mechanical engineering applications.

CNC Machining ALNO on the Central Coast

Determining the manufacturability of precision component is more about understanding the process by which it will be manufactured furthermore whether you have the machinery to manufacture. In most cases the Engineer / Designer that specifies at the the component along with tolerances and surface finish these specifications are based on the the specifiers experience. In many cases if the documents have been produced by an ex. machinist or ex. fabricator there is a good opportunity of assembly or erection in the first instance as a fabricator / machinist has to look at that part’s design and imagines the steps or requirements which will be necessary to produce the design. From that, he will develop the process needed to fabricate the part.
The problem is that most design engineers have limited training in terms of imagining how or the process of fabrication / machining. In some cases how a  process of work holding can determine the success or failure of a design.
At ALNO Product Services all of our designers and engineers have either fabrication and or machining experience ensuring that your products designed by ALNO Product Services will function as manufactured.

Alno-Front-Page-Logo

Why use ALNO for your convertible roof repairs?

Knowledge base second to none in Australia / New Zealand terms of getting convertible roofs moving again. The team at ALNO get convertible roofs moving on a daily basis we don’t change oil, we don’t change your brakes we get your roof moving.

Quality roof components – Australian made components come with 2-year warranty yet many of our components outlast the OEM design in many cases. In the case where there is a sacrificial component in terms of plastic gears we replace the design intent with the same design intent.

Low cost repair – where our customer just wants to get the roof moving again and sell the convertible we call the second-hand car dealer option. Just get the roof moving so we can sell it.

Automated Convertible roofs or more commonly called my transformer

Smart mechatronic systems where one needs a mechanical engineering degree to understand the programing the system or even just fault finding in terms of errors and coding.

One can burn through quite a bit of money guessing that can be your money or the customer’s money. Guessing if it the fuse, rely, gear set, motor gear or wire harness, roof controller, the program in the roof controller is nor compatible with your convertible because you have replaced it. The team at ALNO have seen some of the simplest cases of repair such as replacing a broken rear window turning into a costly exercise due to the guess factor.

What are the common problems with this convertible?

The question we get asked the most is what are the common problems with this convertible to answer this question we have created this web page

electrical-convertible-roof

 Convertible Roof Electrical problems

  •  Low Voltage
  • Blow Fuse or rely failure
  • Sensor failure – broken or not supplying feedback
  • Windows not dropping down
  • Broken wire loom / cable assembly / harness broken wire are generally a sign of fatigue as the roof has been opened and closed for the past 5+ years
  • Wire loom / cable assembly / harness is shorting out the roof controller
  • Cheap cone scan tool has reformatted or erased the roof controller program
  • Motor torque sensors not responding
  • Roof controller lost power in the middle of operation or needs to be reset
  • I have replaced the roof controller with new one but the air conditioner and or rear window demister is not wrong

Mechanical Problems

  • Components have dislodged and stop the roof from moving.
  • Gear fatigue – gear worn out part life of gear
  • Gear material failure – where gear has been replaced with another gear of dissimilar material and the torque sensor has failed and gear has causing rotational motion that has smashed roof components
  • Roof not reset correctly causing mechanical component failure
  • Roof has been pushed or pulled bending hydraulic cylinder
  • Roof stops half way it goes back or forward but cannot get passed a certain point and needs to be pushed or is pushed and stops completely

Hydraulic problems

  • Pump over heating
  • Hydraulic oil is leaking everywhere squirted all over my leather seats and or roof
  • Roof moves slowly as wrong oil used
  • Roof crashes in to windscreen
  • Pump blocked foreign object blocked pump or bearings all fallen out and too hard to put back together

CNC Machining

Computer-numeric controlled (CNC) machining is a subtractive manufacturing process, where raw material is removed with a range of cutting tools in some case precision cutting tools.

Advanced software is used to computationally derive an effective 3 dimension tool path to ensure that the life of the tool and ensure a quality surface finish is provided. This control of our equipment according to the instructions of your solid model we can also use traditional 2 dimensional CAD drawings file along with 2 dimensional paper drawings if required.

Our team of machinists program the equipment to optimize cutting time, surface finish, and final tolerance to meet your design specifications.

We use CNC machining not only to manufacture finished parts and prototypes but also for the purpose of toolmaking our team also have vast experience in manufacturing Australian made mould tools, plastic injection moulding, pressure die casting, press tools and or Jigs fixtures.

Structural Drafting | Hamilton By Design

Hamilton By Design have been offering a first class service for more than 25+ years when it comes to Structural drafting services.

Over the years Structural Drafting tools have moved on from line base tools or programs to solid models which offer options in terms of analysing designs prior to detailing and or fabrication.

Our team have developed in house process of automating the production of steel engineering and structural steel drawings as well as other facets of steel engineering design and fabrication processes.

So why is it that there is still a large sector of steel fabricators and engineering companies that are still working with 30 year old technology if remaining on 2D Cad, if it works for them and you been making money why change?

At Hamilton By Design we take a different view we want to stay in front of the technology wave or we prefer to surf the technology wave we harness its power to drive our engineering solutions further.

Traditionally structural drafting is the ability of combining and Architects dream and an Engineer’s structural design calculations and design sketches into manufacturable drawings. Structural drawings are the bridge between an Architect, Engineer and a steel fabricator.

Structural drawings typically start from rudimentary hand sketches that are associated with structural design calculations, which are in accordance with local and national building codes. It is from such sketches that presentation quality structural drawings are created.

In general terms for any given structural project the contract drawings could be drafted by a range of different persons, such as the Structural Engineer or the steel fabricator both could performed the structural drafting work. At Hamilton By Design we have the last in solid modelling design tools that can cost effectively produce the drafting details in an efficient manner.

Professional structural drawings produced by Hamilton By Design have a certain look and feel to them, which is called line work. This professionalism has been pasted on from one mentor to the student and when we look back at all the fabulous mentors that have pasted forward the knowhow and we are thankfully for the opportunity that we have been given.
